Burning Questions Answered Here

We know what you really want to know about Brisbane Run Squad. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of all the frequently asked questions we usually get regarding our squad, run lead team and more. If you still haven’t found the answers you’re looking for, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

WHAT KIND OF TRAINING/EXPERIENCE DO THE RUN LEADS HAVE?

Our two co-founders are qualified Athletics Australia Coaches. All run leads have extensive experience and backgrounds in running, including coaching school cross country teams. Most of us have our blue cards (if your child is joining us, please email us about this), up to date first aid certificates and we even a run lead who is a paramedic! So you are in good hands.

WHAT TYPE OF RUNNERS DOES THE CLUB HAVE?

We have runners of all ages (16-60), all abilities (5km runners to ultra-marathoners), and all paces to match.
We do use 10km as a guide to suggesting your perfect BRS Group to run with (but don't worrry if you are not there yet). We divide our groups based on power, like CCs of a motor bike! 125s are either working up to 10km or run over 60mins for 10km, 250s are either working up to 10km or running 10km between 50-60mins, 500s are running between 40-50mins for 10km and the 1000s group are smashing out sub 40s for 10km.
You can choose a group that suits you based on a) how you are feeling on the day, b) what your goals are and c) if you are in rehab from an injury or easing back into it.
All runners on the night will run to the same place and train as a single squad, but the efforts/sets will vary based on your CC group.

ARE YOU ABLE TO COME ALONG FOR A TRIAL RUN?

Absolutely! All sessions are free and we know you will be back. If you join as a member, $60 annual fee, you get access to the full BRS family experience, as well as sponsor and partner discounts. You don’t need to tell us you are coming (of course you can and we would love that), simply just turn up 10 minutes before the session start and introduce yourself to your session's lead.

ARE HEADPHONES ALLOWED?

We don’t discourage headphones, but to be honest, our sessions (especially Saturdays) are an opportunity to meet people, have a chat, catch up, and tune out!
Think about it, when was the last time you had an uninterrupted hour with friends? Or an hour of no distractions to really get to know somebody? A few of our runners have started with us wearing headphones, and they have only lasted a session before they realised the social power of the squad for running and your well-being.

ARE BATHROOMS AVAILABLE? (BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE RUN.)

Yes, the Ship Inn, one of our sponsors, kindly let us use the Toilet on Monday and Wednesday sessions. As we are running around Southbank, you are never far from a toilet!
Saturdays, we usually plan the sessions based on bathroom availability and good breakies. So, be assured with us, bathrooms are always a priority!

IS PARKING AVAILABLE, AND IS THERE A SAFE PLACE TO LEAVE VALUABLES LIKE KEYS OR YOUR WORK OUT BAG?

PARKING: For midweek sessions, parking is available in Southbank or on Dock Street or other Streets around Southbank. Note, these are mosty metered parking until 10pm.

Some people come straight from work in the city, walking across the Goodwill Games Bridge and then catching the Bus or Train home, both of which are very close.
For Saturday sessions, we take parking into consideration, so that is always fine!
VALUABLES: Our lovely sponsors at the Ship Inn allow us to leave our bags in the foyer and we have a box for valuables. They keep an eye on them, but of course don’t guarantee their safety.

HOW FAR WILL YOU BE RUNNING THAT DAY?

This is a toughy to answer, it depends on the group you run in, type of session, day of the week, goals coming up! Just give us a call/email and we can talk this one through. As a very rough guide; Monday and Wednesday 6km-10km, Saturday 5km-20km.

IS THERE WATER ON THE ROUTE, OR DOES EVERYONE CARRY THEIR OWN?

Again, being at Southbank a drink tap isn’t far away! If we are hitting the trails on the weekend, we always recommend carrying water with you. To keep you going until you get home, after each session we provide refreshments.

CAN I RUN WITH A PRAM?

Yes, we welcome pram runners and most of our sessions can be run with little modification.  However, if you're joining us for the first time with a pram we suggest you let us know in advance. If you would like any advice about pram running feel free to get in touch as our run leads have extensive experience in this area.
